SSPCA Gala Nite

In conjunction with World Animal Day & SSPCA's 50th Anniversary celebration, we attended a dinner quite recently to support the basic rights of our furry friends.

Jem was fascinated with the bird up there & loved to make its head bob every time he jiggled the balloons

And surely, there is more to dinner that you and i could do, right?

Ps 24:1 The world & all that is in it belongs to the Lord.

Gen 1: 28  HE blessed them, and said, "Have many children, so that your descendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals."

Crafting: Leaf Art

And this time, we got the glue guns! Yay!

I thought of having the little guys have a go at the head bands again with the guns, but since we ran out of those head bands & glittery trinkets, i decided to look elsewhere for supplies.

Ahem...

Naturally, of course.

Hee hee

The sweet boy with the sweet tooth, trying to snip off a leafy branch.

After a quick scavenge in the garden, we took home a variety of leaves to start with.

And then let the boys loose with the guns. Quite literally.

Bee zee... and the boys were curious with the long stringy bits of glue.

And Jem Boy was thinking about building a fence around the stalks of leaves so that the bad guys can't come in :P
And the boys' creation:

Have a blessed weekend, everyone!

Crafting: Rhinestone head bands

These recent evenings, the boys would clamor for Tom & Jerry cartoons whenever we got back home from school. But one evening, when they got bored, they did this:

No bumper cars, no problem! We got bumper chairs!  25.9.13
 And this.
Project demolition box. With a pair of scissors, a can opener, & a pair of feet!

And to complete the demolition process, enter The Cat.
Yes, even Ah Mi knows how to have fun!

And then in a whirl of a moment, i decided to drop my dishes, & let them try a flash craft project: Making rhinestone head bands.

Actually, i have been saving the head band project for some time now, until i think they are able to safely handle a glue gun.

But.

No glue gun. Surprisingly, all the stores i visited in the past months were all out of stock of the small version.

So, glue gun or not, i decided to go ahead.

Guess what we used?

Jem placing & pasting those gems
I admit that i am often surprised by the fine motor skills the boys have. How they were able to pincer-hold the small ornaments & paste them quite proper on those plastic bands. Since this is their first, I guided the boys in the process & chose the stones for their first bands.

They did enjoy it until Jem scalded his finger with the hot melted glue (sorry!) & then Zac started to play with the flame, forming wisps of black smoke out of the burning glue stick. I ended up assisting them in placing the hot glue on the fake gem stones, & occasionally pasting it for the riskier ones (or for a tired boy).

Jem LOVES pink. When i suggested to him that the first head band we did we will give to Ah Mah, he promptly asserted his right over the pink one.

 How about this?

Yeah, & won't those glittering bands make great looking stethoscope? And a glamorous pirate eye patch?

The colorful bands, ready to be given away. Except the pink one at the bottom, of course. hee hee..

They look remarkably gem-like, don't they?

A note to the boys:

My sons,

Creativity is one of the many things the school doesn't teach you. Yet, each of us is creative. As one of the great gifts that God has gifted us all, we have the power of imagination & creativity.

And, creativity is like a muscle. With practice, discipline & a willingness to explore & see things differently, you can nurture it.

So, don't be afraid to be creative. Or even different. Instead, dare to be different.

Love,
Mummy.
